St Olympia Orthodox Church - Week of 10 13 2024
Dear Faithful,
Attached is the weekly bulletin (thank you, Peggy).
This Wednesday, we remember St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and Apostle to America. He is a perfect saint for us in the North Country:
“Bishop Tikhon did not seek status, luxury, or aggrandizement, and did not support petty politics and ethnic divisions, but rather was a servant and a father to all, seeking only what would be best [for his people]” - from the book, Glorified in America, p. 47
St. Tikhon was a man of deep humility, good humor, and firm gentleness-- always taking the "middle way." He was not afraid to get his hands dirty, to make himself available, and to solve difficult problems. He was a good shepherd who quite literally laid down his life for his sheep. You can read more about his life in the bulletin.
October is an exciting month for us:
Lots of work is being done to make our basement suitable and safe, including installation of the new boiler (last week), asbestos removal (this week), and mold remediation (next week).
Our beloved Mother Sophronia will be moving her skete to Norwood! Help will be needed; please stay tuned.
We will begin our Fall Fellowship Nights (Saturdays after vespers) on Saturday, October 19 with an evening of pizza and song.
May God bless and keep you all.
Your servant in Christ,
Fr Gregory
